Time Management

I’m trying to be more efficient in my life, but let’s get real for a minute. It. Is. Hard. I have these (unnamed) colleagues who are like unicorns and seem to require very little sleep, or so I suspect. You know these people. They are the ones that email great ideas or respond kindly to your email at 2 am…and yes they are still in your time zone; no geographic trickery here. I mean…just HOW?? I require sleep to function so I have figure out another way which has led me to try time blocking. I’ve been trying it for a while and some days it works great and then other days it doesn’t work at all. If I just had tasks to do (and knew how to do each one of them proficiently), I think it would work well most days. Unfortunately, sometimes I am learning new techniques in lab, reading new material I don’t understand, dealing with unexpected sickness in myself, my patients or my kids…you get the point. Sometimes I derail, but for the most part I find it helpful. I find myself pulled in a million directions each day and I look up to my mentors and wonder….how am I ever going to do what they do?? Until then, I will time block and knock each little thing off my list in half hour increments, and I’m sorry if I’m late, I really am trying.

Give me your best time saving and efficiency tips!
